The Christmas Tree from Wolverine

This is a memory prompted by one of Tyler's comments a few posts back about skiing and sledding...yes, I remember this little trek well. We took the truck up to Wolverine and ended up near the camping spot we used to camp in alot. It had two "entries"; one was a longer but much easier way down into the camp site while the other was a very short, direct, and steep little slope right down to camp.

There was so much snow up there I'm positive we only pulled off to the side of the road right up above this camping spot. I don't remember much about the hike or finding the perfect tree, but I do remember it was us that was stuck when it was time to go. Being the paranoid little girl I was, this didn't sit well with me.

I think we had our sleds with us and were probably riding down the steeper of the two camp site driveways while we waited for dad to hopefully get the truck out, but I remember mostly standing down there watching dad and mom work and work, trying to get the truck unstuck. I think I was quiet enough that no one noticed but after a while I was genuinely scared we wouldn't get out! It was at this point that, as cheesy as it may sound, became somewhat of a defining moment in my life.

The thought came to me to say a prayer asking for help, so I went down to the side of the creek, knelt down, and did just that. I kid you not, what felt like just seconds later, some guys on snow machines came and were able to pull the truck out; I was literally shocked! Some would argue that this was mere coincidence. Others might just assume that at some point, someone was bound to come by and offer help, which probably was the case. But for me it became a real foundation of the power of prayer in my life, making that little trip for a Christmas tree completely worth it.
