EISF Tricksters
The Moser kids were famous in the town of Blackfoot when it came to the Eastern Idaho State Fair. Since we participated in 4H since about the time we were big enough to handle a Holstein, we would always be "the kids to try and beat." I put much emphasis on the word TRY, because let's face it, we were good. Kids will be kids though, and when you spend that much time at the fair you can only go to the ice cream barn, sweep the isle, pitch fork the cow piles, and dump the wheel barrel so many times. We had to come up with creative ways to keep ourselves busy. There were four particular tricks that we would play on the fair goers that I remember. One was the famous "guy" stuck under a cow or "guy" stuck under a straw bale. Sometimes we would get really creative and connect a string to the leg or arm and make it move as people would walk by. Next was the falling spider, probably one of the funnest ones to watch. We had an old roll of fishing line that we tied to a rubber spider. The spider was one that had a bladder attached to it so that when you would squeeze the bladder a tongue would come out. I think we took that off though. We decided to tie the fishing line to the spider and then tossed the spider over the beams of the ceiling. After hoisting the spider out of the unknowing cow gazers eyesight we would wait for the perfect victims and drop it right in front of them! Oh the screams! I'm sure it startled the cows a few too many times, but it was fun. Next was the cap wallet. Now this was a beauty. And usually purchased there at the fair from one of the booths that at the time was near where the teriyaki chicken sits now across from the scone booth. We would place a dollar in the wallet, load it with one of the little plastic red blast caps with the white inner primer and wait for then next unsuspecting victim. People hated falling for that one! A boy even tried running off with it once, but we caught him. What made this trick even better is when we would have people sign their name to a list. This was a fake list that had a bunch of names on it. The reason why we wanted them to sign it was because not only did we have the exploding wallet, but we had a cap pen also! DOUBLE WHAMMY!
