Brooks & Dunn

Kurt always had connections.  This particular story deals with him acquiring tickets to the Brooks & Dunn concert at the EISF. I believe he had helped set up the lights for the concert, or thats what he told us anyways, and that’s how he got the extra tickets.

Ann & Lacy probably have a different memory of this concert than what I do, and here is the story why. When Kurt had originally told us about the concert and how he had extra tickets it was assumed that it was only for the girls (Ann & Lacy). I think mom noticed that I might have felt a little left out so she told me that we would hang out that evening and that I could take here to my favorite booth, Bill’s Sports Cards, and show her all the posters and cards that I had been checking out all week. The time had come to meet up with Kurt. Mom and we three kids walked towards the grandstand and when we crossed paths with Kurt it was to my surprise that he had a ticket for me as well. I loved Brooks & Dunn and in that moment thought of nothing else, UNTIL we walked away from mom. You see a little boy doesn’t realize that a mother’s idea of a fun night doesn’t usually include going to check out basketball cards and posters. The way this little boy saw things that night was that he had just abandoned his mother and now she wasn’t going to have the fun they had planned. I was wearing one of my favorite ball caps that evening. And lucky for me I was, because once we found our seats and I had time to ponder what had just happened, the water works started flowing. I pulled the bill of that hat as far down my face as I possibly could and tears rolled down my cheeks just about that whole concert. Never had I felt so bad in my life. I’m sure everyone noticed I was crying, how could you not, but I think they noticed I was trying to hide it and just let me believe I was doing a good job at it. I hope Ann and Lacy enjoyed the concert, because it was no boot scoot and boogie time for me. I still tear up thinking about it to this day, what the heck!?
