I have some early memories of the old orange/red lawn mower we used to have; the one that mom would say took an acre to turn it! I remember riding on it, with mom driving, down to the pink house to mow the lawn there, and I even recall driving it a few times but I'm not sure if I actually mowed any lawn with it. Then came the day dad got a Dixon; that blue beast was as much a treat for us kids as it was for mom and dad, if not more so! It seems like the first day we had it either Lacy or Tyler was testing it out and actually nearly popped a wheelie with it.
The mower had a weight sensor in the seat and if there wasn't any weight to keep the sensor suppressed the mower would shut off. Because of this, Lacy and I initially had to mow riding together so our combined weight would keep the mower going; sitting alone, neither of us weighed enough! Even when we got a little bigger, when we would be mowing a bumpy part of the lawn, our little butts would bounce off the seat causing a bit of a "stutter". That Dixon made lawn mowing fun, to say the least, as we'd ram those
handles forward as far as they could go, allowing us to go as fast as
the machine would let us. Turning it was almost as fun since it was a zero turn radius and would give us a bit of a whip if we were going fast enough. I can't imagine the miles we put on that thing with all the lawn there was to mow but it sure made the chore more tolerable.
